Best Time of the Year to Undergo Cosmetic Surgery?
A common question asked is, “when is the best time of the year to have surgery?”
Many may argue that winter (mid-December through March) is the best time to undergo just about any type of cosmetic surgery. From a medical viewpoint, procedures done in the winter will have months that follow when the sunlight is less intense. Staying out of strong direct sunlight after most cosmetic surgery operations is crucial to a healthy recovery process. This is certainly easier to do during the winter. Winter clothing also makes it easier to conceal swelling and bruising or any obvious changes in body habitus from breast augmentation, breast reduction, liposuction or tummy-tuck. For some, the winter months may also be a slower time for business and long holiday weekends may make taking time off work a little bit easier.
On the other hand, some prefer to use summer vacation time to recuperate. If you do decide to have surgery this summer, listen to your surgeon and plan on staying indoors for 1-2 weeks in the air conditioned comfort to allow healing to progress.
The reality is that patients have surgery at all times during the year and the results are usually excellent regardless of the time of the year. As long patients give themselves enough time for recovery and follow the doctor’s post-operative instructions, they will almost always have excellent results.
